Ruston Refuses Annexation
The Ruston council passed a resolution at their meeting Tuesday refusing to allow annexation proceedings to continue. The annexation petition from Point Ruston owners seeks to have Tacoma take over the portion of their property that is within Ruston. More details at The News Tribune here.

Our evil little Town masquerading as an "idyllic bedroom community"?
I seem to remember when they colluded with the Rust Smelter to steal the property from Tacoma forming the town of Ruston. Stole it from Tacoma didn't they?
Now they are the pot calling the kettle black because Tacoma wants it back?
Ruston's previous largest taxpayer didn't fare so well. After a 400 percent tax increase and thousands in legal fees they shut them down losing $30,00.00 per year in taxes. Reason: We don't like your sign.
Thirty five people lost their jobs just before Christmas.
Oh the joyful little Town.
More to follow.
WHY can't the citizens vote (anonymously) to go BACK to Tacoma or STAY as a pretend little tiny Town/City… that is totaly self indulgent.
This idyllic little Town was on it's last gasp in 2005. They sold a quarter of the school property for $400.000.00 to stave off bankruptcy. Since then they have used this money to remain viable. It has also served as a personal piggy bank for the small clique of ten to fifteen citizens who control, run the Town. They have lost lawsuit after lawsuit on clique piques. One local lawyer won six lawsuits against the Town. Examples of the victims of their pique: Ballet classes one member wanted to hold in a space leased out by the Town for 500 years, "Take down your sign or else" resulted in closing of another business, the third an unfortunate business that was too close to the mayor's house and had to go (lawsuit still underway).
"Why can't the citizens vote to go back to Tacoma..." Ruston is currently in the hands of 10ish people who are looking out for their own interest. Let's start at the top: Mayor Hopkins lives on 49th St. across from the Unicorn Tavern and his house directly overlooks Point Ruston, just below the Mayor on Court St. lives his appointed chair of the Planning Commission K. Moser (has a beautiful view of Point Ruston), step next door and find recently appointed Council member L. Syler (yes appointed not elected and yes same beautiful view), go one more block down the hill to Commercial St. and you find 3 more of the 5 council members houses (Kristovich, Hunt, and Hedrick) sitting side by side also directly overlooking the Point Ruston project. Then there are a few other individuals with a monetary stake: for hire Town Engineer - J. Morrissette from Olympia, for hire Town Planner -Rob White from Gig Harbor, for hire Town Attorney - Carol Morris from Gig Harbor. Each of these professionals are currently charging hefty fees to provide services, guidance, and advice to the aforementioned mayor and council members. Each also becomes completely unnecessary should Ruston be annexed into Tacoma.
So can the citizens vote to be annexed? Yes, but we will have to do it against the will of the few and at the risk of retaliation from the above and the police department (they to would become unnecessary and redundant).
Sally. Thank you for ALL of your comments.
