Clever Has Closed

It's official, the cute little shop called Clever has closed its doors. Artist extraordinaire Heidi Kress is busy with new adventures and there will be a new business in this space soon. I'll try to get more details on Heidi's adventures and the new shop in the next few days.

Wishing her well. Businesses in that building have never seemed to last long - I remember that a few years ago there was a tatoo service, then a lawyer opened an office there, then Clever opened. Don't know about the tatoo business but the attorney and Clever didn't last over 5 or 6 months. I never saw anyone in the shop but it didn't have to do with the artist being talented, just no demand in Ruston for what she offered.

Find a need and fill it, is the old saying regarding being successful in business. I would add find the right location. The building where the market is, is off the main drag (Pearl) and most mainstream traffic doesn't stop inside Ruston's neighborhood. Maybe Clever would have done better locating on Pearl. Moot point now, but other businesses should note that 51st STreet really isn't as prime a location as it looks. You need wide area exposure, not just Ruston folks, to make a business thrive. Don's market is used mainly by old timers and summer shoppers, so it can hang on, but other businesses need year round strong use to stay alive. Just my opinion, but I used to be in business and I think I'm somewhat saavy about location.

Hey, if you're looking for a viable business to locate in Don's building, get a behavioral psychologist. That's one of the going new fields and there's no one in our area.

Recommend that the parking places be re-striped outside across the street; those are a real downer for people.

Even with all that parking on both sides of the street, hardly anyone parks there.

I've heard that the next business that will open there is CLOVER. Clever, isn't it?
