No Lights In Ruston

UPDATE: The power was restored to the Ruston School building and presumably the rest of Ruston this morning at about 9:20 am.

At 3:07 am, the lights went out in town - and a lot of the north end of Tacoma. It appears some Mylar balloons got caught in some power lines and killed two lines. Both lines have to be replaced in order to restore power to the area.

Tacoma Power reports we still have to wait another 2 or 3 more hours till the lights come back on in Ruston. The initial outage took out power to 1545 homes, from North 42nd to Park Ave, Pearl to Mildred and Salmon Beach.

The power has been restored to most of the area now. There are only 450 customers left in the cold right now, from North 45th to Park Ave, including Salmon Beach and Point Defiance Park (presumably the zoo as well).

Quite a summer we are having around here!

It sure was comforting to drive by the Antique Sandwich Shop at 7:30 this morning and see every single one of the Tacoma Power personnel standing around laughing and joking around. Maybe someone should have told them that the daycare a block up the road can't open if the power is out. But the Tacoma Power workers were probably just taking a union break or something. Gotta love unions. So the power came back on at 9:30am but the daycare was told that the power wouldn't be back on until around 3pm, so they closed the daycare for the day. Now anyone who took their child to that daycare has to miss work. Way to go Tacoma Power. Way to be there for the community.

dittos! It's sad for the daycare kids, parents, workers and all the citizens that are let-down, too often, by
the service workers in their communities.

Do we know the severity and dangers associated with this accident? It is easy to point out flaws with our government- no doubt they are countless. I think the linemen were just using caution. Anyway all this back to normal in the hamlet of Ruston!
