Election Day & Council Meeting

Today is election day in Ruston with five of six elected seats up for grabs, but only one contested race. So we can expect things to continue on their current course with no major change in direction. Only council seat #2 offers any choice with newcomer Holland Cohen challenging incumbent Deb Kristovich.

The council meeting tonight (background materials here) includes the public hearing setting property tax rates for the new year, zoning code changes, lifting the moratorium on marijuana sales (which are not allowed in town due to other restrictions) and the first reading for the 2014 budget among other issues. It's a fairly eventful day in what is otherwise a sleepy Ruston political scene.
