Running just got much more interesting. The first ever Goldfish Gallop 5-k run will be held on August 8th. There will be prizes and a "fish face" contest. The race starts at the entrance of Point Defiance Park and ends at the Goldfish Tavern with discounted beer or ice tea drinks. Maybe this unique approach will inspire some new participants!

Why do you continue to promote drinking alcoholic beverages and gambling? Your support of a race whose reward is beer and your ongoing promotion of the casino whenever it tangles with the Town or others, are a testament to your poor judgment - or lack of it.
It's disappointing that the tea company and Metro Parks would agree to sponsor the race, and support a local watering hole. A watering hole, I might add, that has a significant amount of complaints from neighboring households and corresponding visits from the police.
Why don't you get behind an activity that is more conducive to good community relations and less supportive of those who have addictions to alcohol and gambling?
I think it’s a stretch to say I'm promoting drinking and gambling because I post information on events that occur in our neighborhood. I try to provide information on many subjects; background all the local businesses, the music festival, the work of our local elected officials, the community’s curb-painting effort, the 4th of July children’s parade – and that’s just in the last month.
If you know of any AA meetings or Gamblers Anonymous meetings in the area, I'd be happy to provide information on those events as well.
Thanks for the heads-up. I wouldn't have known about this race without your site.
Some folks need to lighten up!
Somehow I just don't picture alcoholics and alcohol abusers running a 5K race. But I see no harm in enjoying a nice cold one after a strenuous workout.
All things in moderation.
I have recently taken up running. I also like to have a beer w/ friends every now and again. AND the best part is that I live right across the street from the park and Goldfish.
This is an awesome opportunity to bring people to our town and meet some of our neighbors in a relaxed setting.
See you there!
I'm going to bet $100 on runner # 11 to come stumbling into the gold fish in first place.
This is a great way to have fun and enjoy a run through the park.
Anonymous #1 quit drinking alone!
gamble a little, come on over and
make new freinds.
You guys are great! I gotta tell you though this is not the "first ever" Goldfish Gallup. Bev's "Ladies Wrokout Express Team" entered ...and finished... last year. We had an absolute ball & we have the T-shirts to prove it! You really need to get out there and have some fun! THANK YOU "GOLDFISH TAVERN"!
Oooeeh! Just saw this group of posts. Do you people always gang up and crush someone just because that person has a different point of view than yours?
It's o.k. to disagree, but I wouldn't be surprised if Anon #1 never visits this site again.
Beth is so correct. The purpose behind this was to get out and get some exercise and raise money to benefit kids whose family may not have monies to provide for them to participate in Park Dept. activities. Yes, we had a ball. By the way, the Goldfish has been around for a very long time and it also serves pop and coffee for those that don't partake in alcohol. It is a place of gathering and a way to support a local business. They were willing to be a sponsor and I'm sure if another business in Ruston steps up Metro Parks would love to have them be a sponsor for a function. For those of you that did not have the pleasure of running or walking (in our case)last year, make plans now to join us. It's a great timem, especially when the runners lap you when you are not half way done. We'll continue to participate in this or any other activity that occurs in our area or elsewhere in Tacoma. By the way, Ladies Workout Express will be sponsoring a water station for the Half Marathon this coming Saturday. This is also the second annual event. Thanks for reading.

The only accusatory and strident comments in this post were by anon. I agree in part, barely, about promoting alcohol type events but the vast majority of drinkers aren't abusers. A tiny minority of drinkers drink the vast majority of alcohol and they are indeed the problem.
I suppose Karen is okay promoting events like the Taste, except there is a lot of alcohol consumed there too amnongst the crowded noisy venue with the blaring music.
Is the wine tasting in the rose garden more your cup of tea? Not mine, but I don't drink (or gamble). Is the Zoobilee okay with you? It has loud music and alcohol consumption too.
Try leaving out your assumptions and just state your points, they are valid all by themselves without the Fox News spin.
Oooeeh! You consider that piling on? What I just edited out of my post would have been.
Jolly good then. I shall be there with my running sneakers and a beer bong helment. The gamble will be if i make it to the bloody finish!
Cheers.
