The council meeting tonight should include some lively discussion. EPA will give an update on their projects in the area. The town planner has confirmed the new house at 5311 N. Shirley is too tall (read his report here) and the only solution appears to be requiring the builder to rebuild the roof with a steeper pitch. And finally, our garbage rates go up on December 1st from $19.85 per can to $27.31 ($23.00 to $25.85 if you recycle). You can read that full ordinance here.
The town now has their agendas and council packets available on line. The information for all of tonight's discussion is available here. Come by the community center at 5219 N. Shirley at 7 pm to provide your input.

With nitpicky behavior like that, I'm surprised anything gets built in Ruston.
Just fine the dude like $500 for going over-height and let everyone get on with their lives. Would be a hell of a lot quicker, make the town $500 and not make the homeowner spend $thousands on redoing the entire roof of the house.
The homeowner wouldn't have to spend $thousands of dollars if they would have followed the codes and rules in the first place.
I don't understand why these problems always seem to come up in Ruston. Do we have hard to understand codes? Do other areas have rules similar to ours. The problem with a small fine is that it would open the door to build anything so long as you pay a fine. Some might even look at it as a bribe. The process must be made clear- I feel bad for the home owners.
When you read the report it is very clear.232.3 with a 8/12 roof line.227.3 with anything less than.
It is basic math and the contractor/builder should know how to make these caculations. When in dout...measure twice, ask three times, and build once.
