20 Year Anniversary Coming Up

We are fast approaching the 20 year anniversary of the Asarco Tacoma Smelter stack demolition. Longtime residents will recall it was a big party day in town with all the "Blast The Stack" hoopla. Save the date now for a celebration, and let us know if you have any ideas about how you want to have the date remembered.
  • Thursday, January 17th
  • 3 to 7pm
  • VFW Hall, 4741 N. Baltimore
  • Posters, stack bricks and more to be auctioned off

Gather lots of donations for the auction to benifit a local food bank.

Canned food entrance fee.

Celebrate the implosion of the stack for its fall/step toward Ruston's modernization. Celebrate the plans that are in process for the NEXT 20 years. Let the kids hear about FUTURE plans FOR THEM. The kids(and adults) can dress up in outfits they think they will be wearing in twenty years. Decorate their scooters, trikes, bikes, umbrellas, wagons, pets, dolls, favorite toys (ala futuresque) and have a parade or gathering at the school. Commission the Sami kids to build a statue (a little copper and some original bricks) that represents the "Smelter Smoke Stack" have an unveiling and place the statue (permanently) at the bridge. Add some trophies for best in show and souvenirs (t-shirts,mugs small statues etc.) for purchase, all with a "stack" statue theme. Let's look forward. The modern Ruston is developing.
