Summary: Feb. 2, 2009

A quick note with the more interesting points (in my opinion) from tonight's meeting, which lasted until 9:45 pm. I'll get the full writeup posted tomorrow. ~ Karen
  • The council agreed to have the engineering work for some of the street lighting and sewer improvements proceed.
  • Albertson and Stebner want the council to begin discussions with Tacoma on annexation because of the town's budget deficient.
  • Lease of some additional space in the school building to Point Ruston for $5 a square foot was approved.
  • Study sessions were set for March 2nd (update on Point Ruston) and March 16th (potential tax/utility rate increases)

I think Albertson main intention when he ran for council was to make sure Tacoma took over. I do believe it is for his own personal reasons. If he is not going help the town survive, Stebner and him need to step down right now.

I totally agree with #1. Or even better they need to move out of Town. We all need to turn the heat up!!!

Absolutely! We really must remain uninformed about our options. Shame on Albertson and Stebner for trying to open a dialog with Tacoma.

Wasn't Albertson appointed? If so he was not even chosen by our townspeople!

I guess that the civility and accuracy policy extends to allowing sarcasm and accusation of a person's motives. Disappointing.

These honest comments and concerns over motives of the town's leadership are both civil and accurate. Opinions are allowed and will continue to be posted if presented in a civil manner. It's a moving target, but I try to be reasonably fair (even if I disappoint at times).

Those two councilmembers have repeatedly made their intentions clear - they want annexation. They take every opportunity that comes their way. That is not open dialogue, that is an agenda. I bet as the months count down to the elections you will see even more frantic annexation maneuvers. So we have to be involved and informed. Otherwise they will be spending lots more of our money on their annexation dreams. We have our dreams too.

Ruston Home,
You are saying that Anonymous #2's statement that Albertson and Stebner need to move out of town is a civil comment? Really? And that Anonymous #2's call to 'turn the heat up' on these two is also civil?

I think these comments cross over into an arena of threatening and encouraging the community to intimidate the two men because of having a different opinion than Anon #2's. I would hope that Ruston Home steps back and insists on more civil discourse.

An anonymous comment just came in that I'll paraphrase... they suggest that those concerned with civility here attend the council meetings and determine for themselves if these two council members are acting in the best interests of the town.

What you have paraphrased is much beside the point, Ruston Home, and has nothing to do with the real issue: the uncivil tone of some of the comments that you are posting. I think both Ruston Home and those who post, should ask themselves if what is monitored and then posted here, helps create an atmosphere in which the healing of our community can take place? Or are we making comments that fester and encourage more anger and conflict in Ruston?

#3, The only 'SHAME' that will ever stick to those two is that it is a SHAME that they do not reside south of north 46th street in their beloved TACOMA
