Night Out Party

The only party in town last week for Night Out Against Crime was in front of the mayor's home on N. 49th. The usual party at 53rd and Winnifred was suspended this year due to lack of interest, among other reasons. So the whole town trekked over to the south side of town to enjoy live music, good food and great conversation. Mayor Hopkins reports over 70 people stopped by over the course of the evening.

One of the wonderful by-products of neighbors gathering is the resulting brainstorming and energy. The mayor says many folks want to expand into more local events. One idea that might be gaining support is a concert in Rust Park with a community BBQ. The restrooms are getting repaired at the park, so the space will be more usable. If you are interested in helping, contact your elected officials at the emails listed on the right.

Karen. Why must you constanly report on the positive things in Ruston? There should be something more important/interesting to report on than this.

These are positive and pleasant things that Karen should report. By the same token, there are important, even critical, issues regarding Ruston that she should also report but seems to shy away from. It's a pity, for example, that she has shut down any further posts regarding the Walker updates, even though it was she who first put the subject forward on her blog. Not allowing full communication, as long as it is civil and accurate, makes one wonder, why?

The conversation on the Walker issue is available at www.freeruston.proboards.com and the facts have been reported here.
