The highlights from the meeting tonight:
- Resolution 436: Pierce County Fire District Interlocal HazMat Agreement passed after Police Chief Reese had given her approval to Council Member Stebner.
- Ordinance 1274: B&O Taxes had its first reading. The rate on retail services is proposed to be raised from 0.15 to 0.20, with different rates for different businesses. I'll get a copy of the ordinance posted this weekend. The second reading should be at the next regular council meeting with public comment. Council Member Hunt handed out a comparison of tax rates on lots of different things, but did not have copies for the public. We'll get that posted soon, too.
- 2009 Budget Discussion: Mayor Hopkins is exploring everything from cutting services to raising taxes to balance the budget. He will meet with the town clerk-treasurer this week. Tonight's meeting was continued to next Monday, December 8th. As a regular meeting, the council can take action on anything, but the announced focus will be to continue budget discussion.
- Discussion of Community Center: Council Members Albertson and Stebner will meet with The Commencement project folks to discuss using their sale center as a community center when their lease on that space runs out.
