Point Defiance Casino Vs. Town of Ruston

You will recall that Point Defiance Cafe has filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against the Town of Ruston over the increase in gambling tax (and how the tax was imposed). Ruston in turn filed a motion for summary judgement (asking the judge to rule in their favor without a trial).

The motion for summary judgement was denied by Judge Vickie Hogan today. It appears both parties had asked for summary judgement in the case - in their favor. Both requests were denied and the respective attorneys told to set a trial date. Jim Wingard was at the hearing today, you can read about his observations at Ruston Insider.

Karen,

This is a bit off topic, but do you know Ruston's annual sales tax revenue is (year over year?)

Thanks

Interesting question - I don't know. I'll ask the town clerk next time I see her - but my recollection is there is not much generated in sales in Ruston. I recall there being several categories (similar to the B&O taxes). I'll post any information I find...

Thank You.

I need these numbers to put together my own budget proposal.

Another off-base question. Do you know the approximate cost to build the Commencement (not including land). 20-30 million?

Also, do you know how the construction contracts for the Commencement are structured? Is it being built by a General Contractor hired by the owners (Commencement Group LLC), or is it being built by owners themselves (acting as their own general contractor). This is all important due to some changes going on with the Dept. of Revenue. This would have an impact on how they report their taxes.
