More Development

The following Determination of Nonsignificance has been reached by the Ruston planner for the grading needed to develop 4 single family homes on Dave Baumgardner's property at the end of Orchard Street. You may recall that Mr. Baumgardner has a pending lawsuit against the town, former mayor Michael Transue and the town's former planner.

It looks like development will proceed regardless and we'll have new neighbors soon on the bluff overlooking Point Ruston.

I don't think these are going to be "cliff hangin homes". The orginial proposal a few years ago was for standard single family homes. But if it's important to you to make this into a nature preserve I'd suggest contacting the owner to see if you can purchase the property. "They" can't set the land aside for a viewing area without compensating the owner for fair market value.

I am happy for Mr Baumgardner. This has taken a long time and to much money. In this day and age it is refreshing to see development happening at all. Ruston is one of the few places that stands a chance of making it through this tough economy.

Anonymous #1...Set aside for a "viewing area"? .....

How's the view at your house? I think we should set aside your front yard for a viewing area.

What kind of world are we living in where people think they can take over other people's private property for "the greater good"? ...

I need to ask...Is Dave Baumgardner taking over other peoples privite property for "the greater good" as referred to on the Free Ruston site? I believe people still have the right to use and develope their property according to current codes and zoning. If you owned that property how would you proceed?

Why do people get so upset. I'm sure anonymous #1 would only ask for a percentage-say 40% for open space. Is that really to much to ask ,given the incredible views this property has to offer all of us.
