For Those Who Want Details

You might recall that the Town recently issued a determination of non-significance for the proposed development at the end of Orchard for 4 new single family homes

If you are interested, the addendum for the SEPA review is available on Ruston Reports here, along with the comment letter from the state Ecology department. There is also a lengthy grinder pump report, construction stormwater pollution prevention plan and some maps that I will add if anyone is interested...

'Ruston is only as strong as its informed citizenry. Information should be factual and timely' - your words and motto for this blog. So why are you going on to make a matter like 4 houses yet to be built big news, but omit sharing the information that people really want to know more about right now: the very high arsenic readings that an independent lab found on Ruston streets? The implications for your company, Asarco, and the developer of Pt Ruston are too close for comfort for you to acknowledge that this is a significant issue for our community, I suppose. Council member Albertson promises more information at future Council meetings.

FYI, people around town are talking about it but obviously not on your blog.

You're right - the one issue I am very cautious about addressing is the scare tactics used by Council Member Albertson and others on the issue of "contamination". This blog is something I consider a hobby that should not interfere with my work.

On the issue Albertson raised at the last meeting, there is no reason for alarm. The tests were done in an area that has not been remediated yet (but will be as part of the Point Ruston development). EPA will be a council meeting soon to address any concerns and answer questions.

In the meantime, the previous commenter should stand corrected. Albertson's tests were not "high arsenic readings", they are in the range to be expected from soils that have not been remediated yet. They are from an isolated area with no exposure. There is a clean up plan in place to address this issue - there are no "implications" for Point Ruston or my employer.

I've only allowed this comment to explain my position now that Albertson has choosen to bring up this issue on behalf of the town.
