Ruston Debate

Ruston voters will decide on August 19th if they want to change the town's form of government from an elected mayor who runs the executive branch to a council-manager structure, where a paid manager runs the town.

Here are both the pro and con brochures that have gone out to town residents. As usual, I didn't get the material from the Ruston Connection group, who are running the "pro" campaign. But a friend snagged one. I thought you'd like to see both arguments. If you'd like to have your opinion on this issue posted to this main page, please email me at kpicket22@yahoo.com ~ Karen

Since Sally Everding is spearheading this movement, what would stop the Council from hiring Bob Everding at $80,000 as the Town Manager, since they have the hiring authority. Remember if this is approved Everding will be out a job. Food for thought.

Someone please tell Sally that the Mayor did not have the power to singlehandedly make a deal with the Commencement Condominium. If he did, the agreement could have been settled in court. If he didn't, the council went along with it.
You complain about the mayor blocking the permit but so many people forget that you MUST follow the law, and in the world of land use you damn well better because their lawyers will be all over you.
I expect our Town officials to follow the law, that is what they were elected or appointed to do and what the law requires.
The fact of the matter is that things didn't go your way and now you are doing your best to make sure they will for the foreseeable future.
We don't need another form of government, the same group will still be running things, the results will be the same and we don't need to pay to get screwed.

If you're interested in the council/manager form of government read the laws governing it:

http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=35.18

If we don't like it, it will be six years before we can dump it!

We don't have six years so what's the point?
