More Details on Reinhold Firing

Ruston's in the paper again - more background about Reinhold's firing this time. You can view the letter exchange between Reinhold and Transue here, here and here, courtesy of the News Tribune.

Makes me wonder what secret information Council Members Albertson and Stebener got in their meeting with this mysterious "former employee". They met with this person in their official capacity as council members, but we've haven't heard anything since they authorized the meeting for themselves. We need a new soap opera - "As the World Turns in Ruston, Washington" or something catchy. What name would you give us?

Is Dan Albertson the biggest and baddest troublemaker ever in Ruston? Thousands of dollars in Freedom of Information requests, sued the town twice, has a vicious vendetta ongoing with the mayor. Most people would welcome additional police protection Albertson sees it as a threat. Where the Chief parked is the ideal location to catch speeders coming over the hill on Commercial Street.

Chief Reinhold was fired for one and only one reason: he refused to order his officers to break the law. When ordered to close down the UNICORN he informed the Mayor that they were not violating any laws. Previous attempts to close the UNICORN involved assigning all full time officers to work the AM shift outside the UNICORN resulting in thousands of dollars in overtime pay for part-time officers filling their normal shifts.

All was quiet on the Baltimore front. Useless squandering of the Town's money on a personal vendetta. Rule or ruin, Tacoma here we come!

Looks like the mayor isn't the good guy everyone tries to say he is. I can hardly wait for the next chapter on As Ruston Turns. I bet it'll be good.

I have to disagree, anybody that has ever dealt with the former chief would know that he is nothing but a thug and got what was coming. I was very happy that he was fired and now hopefully the new chief makes me feel safe having police here instead of abuse of power and thug rule. I have never met Dan Albertson and dont know his story but i have never sued the town and have no vendetta and i can say with out a doubt that nothing that was in these letters suprised me a bit. It was exactly what i expected. Somebody told me that when it comes to he police chief here in ruston you get what you pay for and because we dont offer a competitive wage thats exactly what we got.

I never had a negative experience with the former chief. I have gone to his office or flagged him down in the street. Maybe it takes a lot more than him to intimidate me since I did have many clarifications of specific events with him.

I am not saying that he wasn't a bad guy, I just didn't see it.

Anytime I saw him he did his job. I think we should have been grateful cu z not everyone wants to work for peanuts and put up with all the small town politcs.

Remembering one charge by the Mayor, specifically, he wrote a parking violation ticket after a warning that the Mayor didn't agree with. No tickets allowed unless approved by the Mayor, and definitely not to anyone on the Friends of the Mayor list.

He was doing his sworn duty!!! How this could be construed as a violation of his authority is mind boggling.

More of the total dysfunction in a small town run by a group of small minded people.

If God can save the Queen maybe he can save Ruston too. Pray for us all, ardently.

Different perspectives on Chief Reinhold? Discomfit between law abiding and law breaking perhaps?

Q: Why did Reinhold become a cop?
A: Because he was a "C" student in highschool

Ive known Officer Reinhold since I was a kid in Elma, an even smaller town with bigger politics, hes always been a good officer, a by the book kind of guy. Any officer that does his job will be labled as some sort of hardnose. Ive known him at least 14 yaers, and I know police work, he's not a bad guy or a cheat of any sort.
