Ruston's politics has generated a fair amount of publicity recently. The bulk of it seems to identify the root of the problem as the condo development.

I disagree.

I believe the condos may be akin to the soil in which the seed grew but the Ruston Connection group planted that seed.

They've sewn and fertilized contempt, disagreement, hate, and dismay. Now their plant is in full bloom.

We still had a fairly civil disagreement going until the first council meeting of the year when councilmembers Wayne Stebner and Dan Albertson presented outright lies regarding their proposed contract with the Tacoma Fire Department. They implied that talks were ongoing when, in fact, the issue was dead.

But their moral and intellectual bankruptcy prevented them from being forthright with the community.

Word got out over the next few days and things exploded on them at the study session that followed. People were justifiably angry with Stebner and Albertson about their lies.

Liars may have a place in the law office, Mr. Albertson, but they certainly don't belong in small-town politics.

For those in the media who claim to be reporters, I wish you would make a reasonable effort to challenge those characters about their lies. I've told reporters from both publications about this, yet it seems to be left out of the story.

Please -- someone -- get it right!
