Unsung Heroes

Every community has its unsung heroes. Small towns seem to have more of them, although its harder for your good deeds to go unnoticed. In Ruston, Council Member Bradley Huson rightly gets frequent mention of his landscape help and donations. But we have gardeners who have been quietly working Ruston soil year after year for no reward other than the joy of making Ruston beautiful.
We have two such quiet heroes in town, who ask to remain anonymous. One of these angels and former Council Member Rena Heineman put in a garden around the "Town of Ruston" sign at the northwest corner of town at least 10 years ago. They tilled, planted, hauled water and made our sign something beautiful. Our two angels have continued to weed, replant and water this mini-garden every summer since.
Our quiet heroes were back out yesterday weeding another visible corner at 51st and Winnifred. This, our town square, serves as a statement about our community in many ways. A statement not only in the visual impact for the many visitors who travel past each day, but in the love and commitment to our town made by loving hands that care.
Thank you, quiet angels ~ for all you give and how you inspire us!

So many neighbors contribute without expectation for recognition and it is those nieghbors that make my feel proud of the community I live in. Thank you all!

I know who you are, I saw you doing the weeding, both of you! Send me a very small amount of money in tiny denominations or I will rat you out to the whole town. You have until midnight tomorrow! But wait!!! If you do it now, I'll settle for cookies!
