How Complete The Destruction

Ruston Mayor Michael Transue resigned tonight - effective immediately. Click here to read Resolution 418 that is referenced in this letter.

His reasons are listed in his letter here, but if you have been at any of the council meetings this year you know how terrible this council has treated Mayor Transue. Agree with him or not, the office of mayor and the considerable efforts of Michael Transue deserve a hell of lot more respect than has been given by this council.

So, thank you Michael for all your efforts. They have been appreciated by the majority of your constituents. You will be missed.

Karen

Mr. Transue led this bunch of schoolyard bullies to power. They used lies, deception, and intimidation to get elected. So it certainly has been no surprise that they have shown a complete lack of honor and integrity. Now they’ve turned on Mr. Transue so, like a schoolyard crybaby, he quit. I lost all respect for Mr. Transue when he teamed up with this gang. Good riddance, Mr. Transue. I hope the destruction of Ruston isn’t your ultimate legacy. – Jim Pickett

Did anyone else notice the smirk on Albertson's face through the mayor's speech? Very unbecoming of our up-and-coming mayor. How horrible for the town employees! God, I hope we can survive until the next election...

I haven't been following the Ruston issues too closely, but any time a mayor resigns, it's a clear sign of serious turmoil.

Ruston is not alone. In Mossyrock, a small town in Lewis County, the mayor, two council members, and the city's attorney abruptly resigned on the same night.

Therapy is available, however, for those city councils who cannot get along. The city council in Ashland, Oregon, recently spent a couple thousand dollars to send themselves to relationship counseling. Perhaps Ruston's city leaders could do the same, and learn to work with one another for once.

The next election will give us nothing more than what we have. I can not believe anyone would want to subject themselves to this insanity and run for any position in this town.

Ruston ~ you've been a good ride; I personally cherish my memories and am very concerned about our future with a council that has no history.

Yes, Michael Transue came back into office with this pack of fools, yet I held out hope that he would balance their inexperiance and lack of responsibility to our community.

I honestly do not believe this pack that calls themselves "council" has a clue where they are going. Hatred and personal agendas are leading us down the path of no return.

Smirking faces are only a cover to their embarrasment and fear of whats next.... & these are our leaders?

Sorry, but school yard crybabies are the ones that stompout to go home & have their dinner when things don't go right. Leaders are those that care & sit through the barrage of insults night after night until it effects their families and health. Yes, there are limits to community service~ and continuous abuse is beyond those limits.

With that said I "Thank Mayor Transue for every effort and sacrifice he and his family have made for the Town of Ruston with all my heart" Beth Torbet

Michael, I want to thank you and your family for all the time and hard work you have given to serve
our Town. I know you have given your heart and soul to do what you felt was right for our Town and it’s citizens. I am sorry that our council was not Rustonians and it really shows. I think they must all be two faced back stabbing Californians. They are proven to be a very rude, deciptive self-righteous group. What is their goal? What is their desire. Oh, I forgot. That’s right they want destruction. Their campaign motto changed right after Election. I bet they don't make it again

Jim, the legacy will be on this council and its next Mayor. Maybe you should apply. They need a perceptive man like your self not a crybaby but someone with some real class and culture. Ruston must have been in a bad way for them to elect a bunch of nobodys. I wonder what that was about.

The Ruston political process reminds me of nothing more than the 'Good Ole Boy Network' of the South that still in effect. It is a bunch of idiots (in office) that continue to create an environment that makes people hesitant to move into the community.

Why in the hell would you want to live in an area where the people in office act like a bunch of f'ing morons and can't get their shit together to actually run the city with dignity or respect.

It makes the recent election in Russia look legitimate.

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." -Edmund Burke, English philosopher

So through hostile rhetoric and browbeating, two council members and now, the mayor, have resigned. One supposes that resigning is the "do nothing" response when being met with such adversity. So has evil triumphed? Or were the resignees not "good men"? And what does victory look like?

Frankly, victory right now is survival. Staying engaged and surviving - both as a town and as a person who dares to be on the "hit list" and speaks out. Even though we will likely have 0000 influence with this group until the next election, I hope many will attend the meetings, watch and have the courage to tell our elected leaders what they think. We aren't allowed to speak at the meetings anymore, but catch them on their way out the door or at home. We have to hold on.

In response to the comment from drizell - former Mayor Transue tried several different approaches to bring consensus or bring in outside help or planning for our future. The current council majority would not allow any help or influence. Instead, they attacked the mayor and anyone they don't like with fervor. It's a crappy way to run a town, but they are in complete control for the time being.

Again, our only hope is survival until the next election. The candidates who were viewed as moderates won the last election, one of which turns out to be with this extremist group on most issues. His vote has given this group control on the soon-to-be 4 appointments that comprise the rest of our leaders. Absolute power corrupts absolutely indeed.

Michael,

I forgot to attend, old age, but completely understand an untenable situation. Only Jim Hedrick stands between us and Mossyrock. Unfortunately, things will not improve with this evil-minded clique.

Our best and maybe only hope is to defeat their change of government initiative and vote them all out.

I am hoping you will not give up but run again in 2008 or is it 2009. Remember if you get elected you can then be appointed Mayor by the council, the ultimate triumph as you are sworn in and they leave in scorn and disgrace. I can only quote from a philosopher whose name I have forgotten:

THIS TOO, IN TIME, WILL PASS.

Good luck and we all thank you for your contribution and dedicated service to the Town. You have served with honor and respectability much to your credit. The town will sorely miss you.

All the more important to have that cup of coffee. I am buying.

Karen,

Really - "Destruction"? Why all the gloom & doom? What has the current council done that leads you to believe that this is "Complete Destruction"? When WAMU changes CEO's - is that "Complete Destruction"? Everything happens for a reason and - believe it or not - change is good.

Changing our consultant/vendor Huitt Zollars was a long over due change. Changing our police chief has been extremely positive. Changing our mayor was done by the mayor himself and cannot be blamed on the council. The hostility he refers to was two sided - whether you believe it or not. The mayor was unable to unite the council which is a direct reflection on his abilities as a manager. There is always give and take in business or any good relationship. The problem was neither side wanted to give but the mayor opted for the easy way out - he took himself out.

Think positive and see the forest and not just the trees. This is opportunity looking Ruston straight in the eyes and it is what we make of it. It’s your opportunity to be a positive leader rather than a negative influence. It’s very easy to criticize our leaders but it's more difficult to be a positive leader.

I know I'm being melodramatic with that title :) But I don’t think I’m having a "negative influence" by calling this council's actions destructive. They have made a point of overtly slamming anything they don't agree with. I would guess you haven't been on the receiving end of one of their tirades yet. It’s not pleasant.

But you’re right, things are what they are. To me positive leadership means we can all express ourselves openly and it should mean we make a collective decision about where we go from here. In this case, our very close-minded leadership will decide for us without allowing even a whimper of protest or input. That is very destructive to our community in my book.

I appreciate your input - let's keep the dialogue going!

Shall we do a Ruston poll. Lets really see what this Town thinks. This council has wasted its whole term trying to gain power and control. Now they have it. No atty. No chief. No planner. No Mayor. What more could they ask for. I'm very excited with this outstanding management team called Ruston's council.
We are nearing the end. Relife is just a year and a half away.

My oh my, another success by the KLAN ala Town CANCEL(Council). They must be overjoyed that they finally forced enough of their own personal misery on Michael.

I am very saddened that such a wonderful little Town has been so brutally violated by the Four Whoresmen(Stebener,Huson,Albertson and Hunt to be clear) that rose to power inside that trojan horse of empty promises and out right lies.

Thank you for your efforts Michael.

Now, will the rest of you pay attention to the quote shown in one of the above posts by Edmund Burke and rise up, revolt as needed and through these bums out!!!

Ruston deserves MUCH, MUCH better.

My hopes and prayers are with you...Please save one of the greatest places on God's green and blue Earth.

First off, we should dispell the notion that the present council and the newly appointed Mayor were schoolyard bullies. Excepting one, these people were the mice that ran from all conflict and hid when anything got difficult. They are the scheming whiners that have wished all their tiny little lives to exact revenge on anyone who even appears to have the slightest bit of integrity. They are motivated by fear, greed, lust for power and a geezer on a scooter. There isn't one of that incestuous group that can even look you in the eye. Try it, and smile when they look away.
