This is the proposed design for the Welcome To Ruston signs, generously drawn by Robert Gilbert of the Point Ruston team. The only thing missing is a horsetail or two!
Sherri Forch, who has been heading up this effort in many ways, has suggested the colors be reduced to shades of blue to match what other communities have done in the area (see below).
What do you all think? You can comment here or email Sherri at Sherri98407@aol.com. Comments from those outside Ruston are encouraged too ~ what do you think would best show off our town?

Nice job Mr Gilbert! I certainly like the sign and thanks to Sherri for the idea.
As for the horsetails, they'll be growing around the base of the sign post.
Are you serious? This sign is very amaturist and does not compare at all to local signage. Painting it blue isn't going to help...sorry. Guys, the stack is gone and soon the tunnel will be too. I would like to see some creativity and vision of what we are becoming since it'll probably be there for a while. So, the ferry could stay since Point Ruston is taking over...and why not the Tacoma Dome, Convention Center, Ruston Way...all those good things Tacoma is bringing us.
How about the hindquarters of six horses on the sign? That would cover the mayor and five of the council. Then visitors would know where all the road apples come from too.
Lose the smelter stack too, Pssst, it's gone ya know.
Me likey idea!
Isn't there supposed to be a T in welcome to Tacoma?
I realy like the style of the "Old Town" sign. Clean & to the point. Who did they contract with to do the design? Sometimes it is better to pay for what you want than feel the need to except something because it is free. Just my opinion.
I like the horses hindquarters idea! Only have one of the horses facing forward (Hedrick)looking through a fence at another horse (Brewer). The only two council members that have stood for Ruston while these RODENTS erased the Town.
Sorry, you are wasteing time and paint on new signs. Perhaps a black and white slogan "formally ruston, the little town that wouldn't throw the bastards out"
I want to warn us to be careful here - the visuals are pushing the "civil" envelope, even though I know the sentiment is real. Let's keep the talk of horses on the Ruston Truth blog. I'll leave the comments up, but please be careful. I think we do more harm than good with it.
And I gotta throw my two-cents worth in. Keep the stack in the sign! Like it or not, it is a huge symbol of our past. Not all of us are ashamed or see our history as a negative. There was a lot of good that went with having the smelter here, too.
It looks like a child drew it. Not very welcoming
