Appeal to Tacoma

January 6th, 2008

Tacoma Fire Chief Stephens,

The Town of Ruston formed a committee to study and compare our options for fire services. The Committee did a very thorough job and the report is available to anyone interested in understanding the importance of RESPONSE TIMES to life & property.

I add my voice to the majority of citizens of the Town of Ruston that have and continue to demonstrate their support for the Ruston Volunteer Fire Department. We have been patronized and ignored by our own Town Council.

I ask the Tacoma Fire Department and the City of Tacoma to not entertain or even go so far as to sit in the same room to negotiate a contract with Ruston Council Member Stebner, Ruston Council Member Albertson or any representatives from the Town of Ruston for Fire and Emergancy Services other than the Mayor of Ruston and the Ruston Fire Chief.

I understand decisions for some participants in this political arena are for political positioning; personal gain and some are for personal vindictiveness. It would be refreshing to have leaders that acted in the best interest for our citizenry especially when lives and property are at stake.

Sincerely, Beth Torbet
