TOWN OF RUSTON
5117 North Winnifred Street
Ruston, WA 98407

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 19, 2008
Statement of Mayor Michael Transue

“Effective today, I am appointing Sergeant Jerome Kunkel as acting Chief of the Ruston Police Department, having finalized the removal Chief James Reinhold from the position of Chief.

As an appointed employee, Ruston’s police chief must maintain the trust and confidence of the mayor and our citizens. While I will not discuss personnel issues, it is my responsibility to ensure that such an individual fills that position and I have taken action, within my lawful ability, to do so.

Sergeant Kunkel has my full support and confidence and will serve as acting chief until an interim appointment can be made. The Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs are assisting me with the search for an experienced interim chief, so that I may conduct a state-wide search and make a permanent appointment prior to summer.”

You would think that if the Mayor has complete confidence in Sgt. Kunkel, he would at least know his first name. It's Jeremy, not Jerome.

In addition, the old Chief's attorney, Joan Mell, is extremely competent and not to be trifled with. You can bet, that with her involved, the mayors actions will cost the town and all of us significantly. Especially if she starts looking into the mayors history with the departments past employees, and chiefs. I hope she looks really hard at Wheeler, snkae that he is, and how the mayoer let him run the department into the ground with lying and deceptive actions.

Sounds like anonymous had a little run in with the law to be so atuned and bitter.

Nope, just know how screwed up things are in that town. Have been since Transue was Mayor in the mid 90's with Kim Wheeler as Chief, Ron Mayer as Sgt. and Ron Welk as patrolman.

And no, I have never had a run in with the law. Just a law abiding gal that has knowledge of the people, the things they have done, the things they have gotten away with, and will do again.

Hey Mayor, it's not the first time you didn't get your sergeant's name right. He's worked for you under both of your administrations and that's the best you can do by him? Quick, without looking at your employee roster, who are your other officers and employees? No fair looking!

It will be very difficult to retain a police chief of the stature and experience of Jim Reinhold under the current divisivness of the CABAL. Cooperate or else, what avout the rest of us who disagree? Is freedom of speech, our right to public comment next?

I think it is awesome that Reinhold has been invited to remove himself and belongings from the office of Chief. Just goes to show you the karma is a fact and those get what they deserve in the long run. Sure did take long enough but of course the former Mayor assisted in all of the drawn out cover ups and processes. I support Mayor Transue in the removal of the Chief and the appointment of Chief "K" not to be confused with Kim. Why did he lose his job as Chief and at the UW? Why did Reinhold get fired from two previous departments? Makes you wonder eh?
