There Goes Another One!

Ruston council member Everding announced his immediate resignation Saturday on the Ruston Connection web page.

Update @ Midnight: The News Tribune has a couple of mentions: a story and on the Political Buzz blog.

I guess the outside world did not know that Sally Everding (Bob's wife) is the editor and host of the Ruston Connection web page. Friend Virginia Carpio (co-editor with Sue Hines) of the Ruston Connection newsletter, announced at the last council meeting that both venues are private.

We do know that the Ruston Connection newsletter editors Carpio and Hines are named in the lawsuit between the casino and the church, and there have been recent changes to the Connection web page that canceled several previous memberships. Not sure if there are any dynamics here that helped Mr. Everding decide to step out of public life, but we'll let you know if we find any....

Good bye Mr. Everding. After reading your letter of resignation regarding your belief the Mayor is "incapable and unwilling to compromise", I wonder if this had anything to do with Chief Reinhold's firing??? I really think the Mayor will disappoint you if you think he will change, despite your public plea. I agree with you on his inability to control the study session, what happened Monday night is not the mark of an effective leader!!!!

Mr. Everding is one pitiful human being for his inability or unwillingness to see that he is the author of his own political demise. He blames everyone and everything but accepts no responsibility. What a poor, pitiful man.

It is he and his Ruston Connection gang that brought on the political climate of which he so bitterly complains. They have brought an agenda of their own that is wholly out of step with the residents of this town. What did they expect? It's a losing proposition for them.

This atmosphere did not exist before these newcomers lied and cheated their way to power. I'm tempted to say good riddance but the truth is that I do not believe there is any joy to be had in his announcement. These are rough times for the residents here. People who have been here for so many years are shocked by what Mr. Everding and his group have brought to our community. They need to go away. And they will because their agenda is not a noble one. But the damage they leave in their wake will take a long time to repair.

Mr. Everding, I hope you will find some peace in your retirement from politics. Clearly you were not cut out for the job in the first place. I wish I could post this on your web site but, like you were in your decisions on the council, you don't permit your opponents to have a voice there.

Thanks for finally doing something right.

So where do we go from here? I have a bad feeling about things to come and I'm wondering who the council is going to appoint to fill the position. This town's politics keep getting more and more interesting. Wanna take any bets that either a book or a movie is going to be made about it?

Take heart my friend. This is just a thinning of the herd. The weak and diseased will fall and our new foundation will be built atop their remains.

I love this little town with all its warts and quirks and eccentric people.

Mark, Obviously we have no ability to control the situation. The council hasn't been much inclined to listen to people and that's unlikely to change. We are brainstorming some ideas about how to deal with this. But deal with it, we will. Obviously, we'll need to remain vigilant. But I'm confident that, in the end, the voters will win this battle. Keep the faith, my friend. It'll be just fine in the end.

Believe me "The Sun Will Come Up Tomorrow" in my world! Being stopped by "The Hand" was not a person open to discussion or compromise. I won't miss his theatrics but I will miss the Bob & Wayne puppet show. I see a new seating arangement in the works...Dan Albertson will most certainly step up to the job of puppet master.

I would like to look at this recent change as an opportunity for all of us to set differences aside: Ruston blog and Ruston connection. I want Ruston to remain Ruston. I fear we are on the verge of loosing that, then we become a nonfactor in any decisions/discussions affecting our future. I would ask for our Council members to lead us in the right direction. I did not vote for all of you, and I certainly don't agree with the opinions you all might have expressed, but I must trust you at this time. It saddens me that I fear what my trust might deliver, but I simply do not have the time to give to fight. Please. Understand that the majority of us in Ruston don't care about who is with which "group", we care about keeping our town our town. Too many of us are tired. We are tired from working full time to support out families. We are tired becasue that is just the world we live in. That is why we vote for you. And I, at this time, trust, and pray, for all of you to overcome your differences to represent and develop a sense of community we once had and need again. Thank you for serving us. I know it is not an easy task for any of you. And I appreciate you all. We are in your hands. Please remember this.

Many of you have forgotten or just don't know but Bill Ferrel, our prosecutor for several years, resigned recently also. Guess who was a key figure in that?

Bill served us well and deserves a thanks from us, he worked hard and put many hours in.

It is through the efforts of many like him that make a town run. Too bad he got the same treatment others are writing about.

sleepy tiger's comment came pretty close! good job!

another cliche comes to mind regarding everding: "the smellers, the feller" the very idea of him trying to lay NO FORWARD PROGRESS at the mayors feet is pure fantasy. bob and his 'second on demand' have delayed and blocked any and all ruston oriented progress since the sad day they took office. tacoma oriented progress has not been so great either, but not for their lack of trying!!

Please folks, DO NOT let these people (our representatives ?!?!)railroad another councilmember into being seatted without due process. IF we are going to HEAL, it needs to come from the inside through a healthy, fair process. Show up, Speak up and Make up a RUSTON that can CONTINUE and that we all can enjoy and be proud of.
